Saviorless is a stylish dark fantasy action-platformer with beautiful hand-drawn art and animation, featuring two distinctive main characters on their quest to escape from a cursed land known as the Smiling Islands.

A reckless child named Antar enters into a forbidden land known as the Smiling Islands hoping to become an all-mighty Savior. Once in there, he will discover that the whole place is just a deadly playground where Saviors are forced to kill each other in order to challenge and defeat a mysterious being known as the “Great Savior”, apparently the only way to abandon the cursed islands.

Saviorless, formerly known as Savior and commonly referred to as the first Cuban indie video game, started its development at the end of 2016, under Empty Head Games, a two-person independent team that included Josuhe Pagliery as game designer and artist, and Johann Armenteros as a programmer. In this early beginnings, and thanks to Innovadores Foundation, a US-based company, they got the opportunity to do a crowdfunding campaign in IndieGogo , something impossible for any Cuban at the time.

Far of been ready and without even a playable demo, to their surprise, they got founded in just 6 days after the campaign started. This small success brought some press over Savior, gaining at the same time bigger notoriety inside and outside the island. Sadly in 2017, the former programmer left the project coinciding with the closing of the US Embassy in Havana and the indefinite dismiss of Innovadores Foundation from Cuba.

Pagliery, still convinced about the quality of the game he was trying to make, started looking for a new programmer who could fulfill his vision, until he finally met David Darias in 2018, his actual partner for the last 2 years. Together decided to turn Saviorless into a game far more complex and cohesive than before, isolating the project until they had a genuine top quality product to show.

In the summer of 2019 and despite all the media coverage Savior had received, another US-based development team known as Starsoft surprisingly took the name Savior for their game, buying the trademark. As a direct result of this, the name of the game was forcedly changed to Saviorless.
